GENERAL INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS FOR THE
2008 McDougal Companies 4th ON BROADWAY PARADE
1. Applications will be accepted through June 16, 2008 or until the Parade is full. We encourage early applications – those received early receive first consideration and an opportunity for an earlier slot in the lineup.
2. Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than June 19, 2008. Late entries will be notified of acceptance within 5 days from the date entry is received.
3. A MANDATORY parade Orientation meeting for accepted applicants will be on June 19, 2008 at 6:00 pm at the Godeke Library, 6601 Quaker Avenue. A representative from each entry must attend this meeting and pick up signage, line-up position, and other necessary information. If you miss this meeting, you may be out of the parade without a refund.
4. Parade line-up will begin at Lubbock Memorial Civic Center/George Mahon Library parking lot starting at 6:00 A.M. on July 4, 2008.
5. The Broadway Festivals, Inc. Board of Directors is a diverse group. It may have a member that supports (your issue here). However, the 4th of July celebration, and specifically the 4th on Broadway celebration is not necessarily about (your issue here). We understand the temptation to make your entry more about (your issue here) than about celebrating our country's birthday – after all, there are LOTS of people watching the parade. DON'T GIVE IN TO THAT TEMPTATION! The parade watchers are not there to be educated/swayed about (your issue here). They are there to celebrate our country's birthday. As a result, we want them to be able to give thoughts on politics/social issues/religion and even (your issue here) a rest for the day, and to simply celebrate.
6. All applicants are encouraged to build floats to showcase in the parade. A float is a trailer or vehicle mounted platform bearing a fully decorated display that significantly modifies the appearance of the trailer or vehicle.
7. The Broadway festival, inc. board of directors will be the sole arbitors of whether your entry meets these requirementS. Broadway Festivals, Inc. reserves the right to refuse participation to any entry at its sole discretion, including, but not limited to, any entry containing political and social statements or issues. This parade is in celebration of our country's birthday – not a platform for any political/social issue.
8. ALL PARADE ENTRIES MUST BE FULLY & APPROPRIATELY DECORATED OR THE ENTRY WILL BE SUBJECT TO EXCLUSION FROM THE PARADE with no reimbursement/REFUND.
As used herein "fully decorated" means:
· Red, white and/or blue skirting or patriotic designed skirting all the way around the trailer
· Trailer wheels, hitches, boxes, etc. are covered completely to change the appearance of the vehicle
· Signage on float/entry with theme of entry and/or name of business
"Appropriately decorated" means in conformity with your application, these guidelines, and passing the line-up inspection of the Broadway Festivals, Inc. Board of Directors.
9. All entries must conform to community standards of taste and decorum.
10. Participants who walk should be prepared to complete a 3.5-mile route in less than two hours.
