Broadway Festivals, Inc. ("BFI") is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to organize, conduct and finance downtown celebrations to focus attention on the historical significance and overall importance of the central core of Lubbock, Texas. The BFI mission is to celebrate the quality of life and embrace the unique history, heritage and culture for all citizens of Lubbock and the Llano Estacado region by promoting the arts and tourism while contributing to the area’s economic vitality. Presently, BFI sponsors the 4th On Broadway Celebration, held each Independence Day. In the past, BFI helped found the Buddy Holly Music Festival, the Lubbock Music Festival, the Lights in the Canyon Holiday Festival, the Lights on Broadway Holiday Celebration and the 4th Corps Youth Program. Broadway Festivals, Inc. was developed out of the very successful 4th On Broadway Celebration originally established by the Committee of Churches in 1990. The organization is governed by a President and a large Board of Directors (up to 18 members), while day-to-day operations are overseen by an Executive Director.
BFI's events are open to the public and have an estimated 100,000 + attendance from Lubbock and the surrounding communities. Through its events, Broadway Festivals, Inc. provides the citizens of Lubbock and the surrounding communities with a unique opportunity each year to come together and celebrate. BFI strives to offer entertainment for everyone and to showcase the unique culture that makes Lubbock an exceptional place to live.
In 1993, the Texas Downtown Association selected the 4th On Broadway Celebration as the “Best Promotional Event.” In 1996, the City of Lubbock chose Broadway Festivals, Inc. and its projects as one of three organizations utilized to compete for the All-American City Title. 4th On Broadway is also considered the "Largest Free Festival in the State of Texas."
The President, Tracy Bacon, is the Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer. She supervises and controls all of the corporation’s business affairs and presides at all meetings of the Board. Tracy is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is a Vice President at Plains Capital Bank. Tracy has been an avid volunteer for the 4th on Broadway Festival since 2001 and was the Event Chairperson of the 2003 4th on Broadway Celebration as well as the Chairperson of the Evening Concert for many years. Tracy is married to Robert Bacon, who is a 6th grade teacher and they have two children, Ben and Emily. The Vice-President, Gary Mitchel oversees operations when the President is absent or unable to act. Gary has been involved with the 4th On Broadway and Lubbock Musical Festival and was the Chair of 4th On Broadway in 2008. He is an attorney, having graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1981. In addition to serving on the Board of Broadway Festivals, Inc., Gary is an officer and Board Member of the Lubbock Apartment Association where he is involved in the education and community service committees.
The Secretary/Treasurer, Felix Garcia, oversees all management of the finances for the organization, including the corporation’s financial books and records.
